Hi. My name Is Nathan and this is my about me page (but you probably figured that out already haven’t you! I like deductive individuals such as yourself! Please continue!).
I enjoy philosophy but don’t immerse myself in it often enough: two of my favorites are John Locke and Henry David Thoreau. Reading Walden was an amazing experience. Something I read there continues to motivate and shape my life.
This spending of the best part of one’s life earning money in order to enjoy a questionable liberty during the least valuable part of it reminds me of the Englishman who went to India to make a fortune first, in order that he might return to England and live the life of a poet. He should have gone up garret at once.Henry David Thoreau
For those that are MBTI-inclined, I am an INTP which you can read about here or here. I consider both to be fairly accurate descriptions of me. I used to be an INTJ but after my mother died, I apparently switched from being Judging to Perceiving. I still haven’t figured out if this is a good thing or a bad thing :/
After watching Will Smith complete a Rubik’s Cube in The Pursuit of Happyness, I decided I too was smart enough to learn. I spent about 8 hours sitting in my college’s cafeteria with a cube, the printed out algothrim, and my laptop. At the end of that I was fairly good and had most everything memorized. I don’t practice often anymore, but can still do a standard 3×3 cube in under 3 minutes and a 5×5 in about 30 (but I would likely need to do a few Google searches to refresh my memory).
I’m passionate about a few things; I believe that you can get a pretty accurate picture of who I am by reading about a few of these passions.
Real Estate. So far this has been the vehicle that provides me with passive income and freedom to explore the world and do other things that I enjoy. But it’s more than that: I love finding dilapidated pieces of property and imagining what they could be transformed into. And then working towards creating something beautiful!
Photography. I love good images. I love capturing and producing good images even more. I have a keen interest in high dynamic range photography and practice on landscapes (they don’t get mad if you mess up or if you ask them to stand there while you experiment with different settings. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and a few good lenses. Unfortunately, my photographs tend to live on Facebook, so unless you’re one of my 500+ closest friends, you won’t get to see my personal work. I’m currently in the process of founding my own start-up (in order to have ANY street-cred in Palo Alto, one MUST have a start-up to work on during the weekends and in the evenings. You can check out GreatProfilePic.com for more details. And as good looking as you are (all my blog readers are good looking), you should definitely think about getting one for yourself! Or buy one or ten for your loved ones!
